Children’s Book Out in October

I had the chance to write a children’s book based on a story imagined by one of my friends and colleagues, Troy Hitch. He asked me to write a story about a dog named Alcott and his owner, Elsa, that revolved around them traveling the world. I jumped at the chance and the story, “Alcott Afoot,” will appear in hardcover this October. The story was illustrated by another friend and colleague, David Schlosser. The End of “Odd Man Out”

“You gotta know when to fold ‘em,” says Kenny Rogers. And I agree. That’s why, after a five year-plus run, I’ve decided to put an end to my “Odd Man Out” column. And a big shout out to Kevin Miyazaki who did such a great job with the photo illustration that accompanied each of my pieces.

“Odd Man Out” has been a blast to write, and I’ve really enjoyed hearing from readers who both liked and hated what they read (especially my column calling into question the existence of God). Many thanks to my talented editor, Jay Stowe.

As for what’s next, I’m not quite sure. I have several ideas rolling around between my ears, but I haven’t settled on one yet. (Maybe the extra time will mean that I’ll update this blog more often. Maybe.)

In the time being, here’s a link to my last “Odd Man Out” column. It’s about quitting. Of course.
